Social Science for Social Justice Podcast Returns for Second Season

January 28, 2025 618

Sage (the parent of Social Science Space) and Surviving Society’s collaborative podcast series, Social Science for Social Justice, has returned for a second season. In three new episodes, podcast host Dr. Chantelle Jessica Lewis (Oxford University) interviews authors from Sage’s book series of the same name, exploring research into topics including racial trauma and the university, African feminist praxis, and eugenics.

The Social Science for Social Justice book series was launched by Sage in 2022 to offer a platform for academics, journalists, and activists of color to respond to today’s pressing social issues. Providing rigorous analysis and radical thinking in clear, accessible language, this series continues Sage’s six-decade legacy of developing and investing in emerging areas of social and behavioral science research.

Eugenics, Colonialism, and Latin America with Rachell Sánchez-Rivera

In episode one, R Sánchez-Rivera, author of Slippery Eugenics: An Introduction to the Critical Studies of Race, Gender, and Coloniality, talks about their life and career between Puerto Rico, the USA, and the UK, uncovering the ever-present existence of eugenics across society.

Racial Trauma, Higher Education, and Whiteness with Harshad Keval

In episode two, Harshad Keval, author of Whiteness, Racial Trauma, and the University, discusses his experiences as an educator. Keval and Lewis explore their frustrations with the education sector and highlight the people and places keeping them inspired and motivated to do race equity work.

African Feminist Praxis with Jessica Horn

In episode three, Jessica Horn, author of African Feminist Praxis: Cartographies of Liberatory Worldmaking, speaks about the importance of working in and with communities – while still leaning on the lessons and wisdoms of scholarship and theory.

All three episodes are available now on Spotify, Apple, and all major podcasting platforms.
