Call for Mentors – International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development

November 23, 2015 793

The ISSBD Mentor Program is a service to provide an early-career scholar with informal mentoring by a mid-career or senior International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development scholar. The character, frequency, and means of communication of the mentoring process can be discussed between the mentor and the mentee. The topics that mentoring may include cover publishing strategies, setting up a research laboratory and research team, obtaining funding, tenure process, and other career-related issues. Mentors and mentees might discuss issues over the phone, Skype, email, and/or meet at the Biennial ISSBD meeting or other conferences.

The society believe that this program can provide early-career ISSBD scholars with an important opportunity to navigate career-related issues and get guidance and supervision from an experienced scholar. To make this program a success, it is important that senior ISSBD members who are potential mentors be willing to participate. Please help make this program successful by signing up today. Participation should be an enriching experience for both mentees and mentors.

Why be an ISSBD Mentor?

Successful mentoring is greatly valued by ISSBD as it supports early-career ISSBD scholars and enhances the reputation of ISSBD and the mentor within ISSBD. Mentoring relations can develop into cross-national collaborations and friendships. Mentors contribute to the development of the next generation of creative ISSBD scholars and benefit by gaining opportunities for professional stimulation, personal enrichment, and a sense of purpose.

It is a relatively small commitment, and we will do our best to match mentors and mentees based on research interests, availability, and specific aims and needs.
