FABBS IDEA Awards: Now Accepting Nominations

August 14, 2023 877

Nominations are open for the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences (FABBS) Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Awards. The prizes recognize behavioral and brain scientists who promote diversity, equity and inclusion in their research, mentorship, service and work.

Established in 2023, two FABBS IDEA awards are offered: the Lifetime Achievement IDEA Award, which honors senior scholars, and the Kellina Craig-Henderson IDEA Award, which honors early to mid-career scholars who have completed their Ph.D. within the past 15 years.

The award for early to mid-career scholars was named after Kellina Craig-Henderson, a social psychologist who served as the assistant director for social, behavioral and economic sciences at the National Science Foundation and worked to promote diversity and inclusion in science.

The award committee seeks scientists who have provided mentorship, advanced scholarship in diversity, equity and inclusion and have engaged in advocacy or service. FABBS membership is not required for nomination, and scientists may also submit a nomination on their own behalf. Nominees are required to have two recommenders, and nominations for scientists from minoritized communities and underrepresented behavioral and brain science disciplines are encouraged.

The awardees will be highlighted in an article on the FABBS newsletter and website and will receive $1,000 and a plaque. The 2023 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award was James M. Jones, a distinguished professor of psychology and Africana studies and director of the Center for the Study of Diversity at the University of Delaware. The 2023 recipient of the

Kellina Craig-Henderson award was Jacqueline M. Chen, an associate professor of social psychology and supervisor of the Social Cognition and Intergroup Perception Laboratory at the University of Utah.

The deadline to submit a nomination is Sept. 15, 2023. Those interested in nominating a scientist for the award should complete the IDEA award nomination submission form.
