Jay Prosser is a reader in the humanities at the University of Leeds. He is the author of 1998's Second Skins: The Body Narratives of Transsexuality, and of two books on photography: one on mourning, Light in the Dark Room: Photography and Loss (2004); and the other on atrocity, in collaboration with Amnesty, Picturing Atrocity: Photography in Crisis (2012). Prosser has led major international research projects resulting in journal special issues, including on transcultural memories of the former Ottoman Empire.
