Jill McCorkel is a professor of sociology and criminology at Villanova University and the founding director of the Philadelphia Justice Project for Women and Girls. McCorkel is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and chapters on prisons and punishment, drug policy, and American criminal law. Her critically acclaimed book, Breaking Women: Gender, Race, and the New Politics of Imprisonment, is the only behind-the-walls ethnographic study of an American women's prison during the height of the drug war.
